Formerly Gourmet Cafe, Beef & Liberty is a new American style diner in the Shanghai Centre. Decor is all warehouse chic, with brushed concrete walls and angular metal chairs in bright primary colours.
The simplified menu features classic burger options, which generally come cooked to a high quality, such as The Bacon Cheese (92RMB) served with 'baconnaise' and 'bacon
jam' along with actual smoked bacon, iceberg lettuce, gherkins and cheddar
cheese stuffed into a perfectly toasted bap along with the main patty and a
tangy barbecue sauce. We also like the tasty lamb burger (88RMB) which comes served with refreshing tzatziki dressing.
They also get marks for serving up our requested 'bunless' burger atop a huge bowl of fresh and tasty salad but annoyingly regular hamburgers are only accompanied by a lone pickle, meaning you have to dip into the menu of sides to get a portion of fries too (from 25RMB). We like the black pepper pomme frites and the coleslaw.
There's also a range of salads on offer and a drinks list which still features their famous spiked shakes, Punk IPA brews and happy hour prices on Vedett.
