Buco offers up delicious, quality Italian gelato from a little window beside Gemma Italian restaurant. Helmed by Italian gelato master Salvatore Naselli – who flew in from Italy to train the chefs and perfect the recipes – it has what’s probably the most legit gelato on offer in Shanghai (dare we say authentic?). Plus, 25RMB per scoop or 40RMB for two are prices you can live with for quality treats.
The team imports top-notch ingredients from Europe (pistachios, fruit jams, hazelnuts, chocolate and the like) and swirls them together with a Carpigiani gelato maker – which they say is ‘the Ferrari of gelato machines’ – to make for some of the creamiest gelato in town. Don’t miss the real pistachio or baccio (hazelnut and chocolate), nor the blueberry and fig sorbets. Or the straciatella – basically, just try them all.
